I’m looking at using the Gao 10/100/1000 MAC core, and I’m wondering about the number of people who have used the design, and the amount of real-life testing the design has had. When I look at the source, it looks like there haven’t been any changes or bug fixes since the design was completed in 2006. Although the code looks fine and the verification scripts are pretty detailed, the long absence of activity concerns me.

I had a great experience using the Opencores 16550 UART core a few years back and remember that the maintainer had been making minor adjustments for quite a while after the design had been completed. The 10/100/1000 MAC is quite a bit more complex, and so I’m very curious to find out whether people have successfully incorporated the core into working designs, and whether they have had to implement fixes or work-arounds.

I did see somewhere on the Opencore site that this core had been used in a security video system, but there are no comments as to whether any difficulties were encountered or bugs were fixed.

It might be a good addition to the site to have a formal area for each core where individuals could report on their experiences: e.g., give a brief comment as to how far they went with the core, how they used it, a level of difficulty in getting it running, and whether they had to make changes. I realize that, to a small degree, this is what the forums are about. Still, it really looks like the forums are more of a place where difficulties are discussed, and newcomers are brought up to speed, and not so much a place where successes are heralded and documented.

Thanks.

Yep, and I am study the EMAC for my design. But there is not a detail doc as reference.

hi ,Gentlemans and Author Gao:
maybe there is a chance that I'll verify the SRC in my project,
while Some of question I need to make clear first ,
does the core support IPG lower than 96bits ?
does it support frame size less than 64bytes with no padding ?
how the clock is used inside ,I just want to know if I can use RX clock as TX clock ,so no pause frame will be generated if there is a clock difference.
thank you .

I study this module too. But there are very many questions. I want to use this core with ET1011. I can't understand how to use MI interface. For programming registers in this chip I must sent 32 bit word with preamble, this word consist of 5 bit phy address,5 bit register address,16 bit data. How to sent it using Gao's module with 16 bit CD bus and 8 bit address bus?
